On the territory of region there is 8232 registered legal entities, out of which 6.089, and 73,97% operates in the economy, with developed craft with 12.093 shops. Legal entities registered in the economy are to a considerable extent, private companies - 88,13%.

According to data from the register of companies in Single Information Chamber System, in the structure of the active companies, the most of them  are small companies 93,95%, then medium enterprises with 4,98% and large enterprises with 1.07%.

The largest number of companies is concentrated in trade activities 56,03%, industry 14,52%, financial and other services 10,21%, agriculture 7,23%, construction building 3,56%, traffic and communication 3,22%, craft and personal services 2,51% and in other areas 2,72%. (Nuber of enterprises: trade 3412, industry 884, financial and other services 622, agriculture 441, construction building 214, traffic and communication 197, craft and personal services 153, other activities 166).

In total income structure of the region, industry is 56,17% share, then agriculture with 16,40% and trade with 15,40% share.

From a total of 74,492 employees, in the economy and the noneconomy is 78.40% of workers and independent stores 21.60%. The greatest number of employees is in the manufacturing industry 22068, agriculture 7.192 and trade 4.875. Municipality of Pančevo employs the largest number of workers in the economy 22685, then Municipality Vršac 9.311, and after them Kovin 3.471, Alibunar 2.701, Kovačica 2.369, Bela Crkva 1.883, Plandište 1.743 and Opovo 571.
On the evidence of The National Employment Service, office branch Pančevo, there are 41.938 unemployed, and 47.102 persons actively searching for job.

According to the data of the Republic Bureau of Statistics, with the situation of 08.04.2005, in the South Banat region there  is 12,093 registered shops, with representation in all business, except in the fishing and the production and supply of electricity, gas and water, and especially in trade 45,99%, traffic and communication 15,98%, processing industry 12,20%, catering 8,92%.
Social product of South Banat districts participates in the social product from the Republic of Serbia with  6.95% and the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina with 22.75%. The biggest share of gross national product in the region have municipalities Pančevo 74.60%, and Vršac 14.93%, followed by municipalities Kovin 3.80%, Kovacica 2.15%, Alibunar 1.63%, Bela Crkva1.53%, Plandište 0.83% and Opovo 0.53%.  From the socio-economic point of view, the period from 1990 to 2007 is characterized by the decrease of gross national income, expressed divestiture process in the economy, falling employment and growth of the number of unemployed persons.
Gross national income per capita in the south Banat in 1990. amounted 3.136 EUR (Dinar equivalent), while in 2002. year was 1.628EUR (Dinar equivalent).

When the distribution of national income by sectors, the dominant sector is industry. Second force is the agricultural sector, and only in third place is the service sector.
